A single door
Door width = carcass width − 5mm
Allow 2.5mm at each side.
Example: 600mm carcass → 595mm door.
A little measuring. A perfect starting point.
Find the door sizes you need, with a tape measure, a pencil and a few clear checks.
We make your doors to the height and width you enter. Use this guide to work out those sizes before ordering-all measurements are in millimetres.
Watch the measuring videoMeasure the door itself, edge to edge. Diagrams are illustrative and not to scale.
If your existing doors fit well, measure their height and width from edge to edge. Measure each different door and drawer front, and note the quantity of each size.
Enter the actual height and width of the door you want us to make. Do not subtract the fitting gaps again when you have measured an existing door.
The measuring video explains the allowances below for the carcass arrangements shown. Measure the overall carcass unit-not just its internal opening. Gaps let doors open freely and allow room for painting.
Check the cabinet layout, neighbouring surfaces and hinge arrangement before using a formula. For inset doors or a different arrangement, email us a sketch and your measurements before ordering.
Door width = carcass width − 5mm
Allow 2.5mm at each side.
Example: 600mm carcass → 595mm door.
Each width = (carcass width − 8mm) ÷ 2
Allow 2.5mm at each outer side and 3mm between the doors.
Example: 1000mm carcass → two 496mm doors.
Carcass height − 3mm
For the arrangement in the video: a gap below the worktop, with the plinth set back so no bottom gap is needed.
Carcass height − 5mm
Allow for a gap at the top and above the lighting trim at the bottom.
Carcass height − 3mm
Use the allowance shown in the video for a wall carcass without a bottom lighting trim.
Overall height − 5mm
For the arrangement shown, leave room between the door and the skirting and cornice.
These allowances come from our measuring video. If your layout differs, ask us to check it rather than applying a deduction twice.
Stand in front of the closed door. Choose left or right according to the side where the hinges sit. For a pair, check each door separately.
On the back of the door, measure from the bottom edge to the centre of every hinge hole. Record each centre separately in millimetres, always from the same bottom edge.
Enter the positions separated by commas. Do not enter the gaps between holes, or measure from the top.
Select 35mm hinge holes if you need drilling. Choose supplied hinges only if you need new hinges too. If you are reusing hinges, check their drilling requirements and email a photo if you are unsure. Do not assume a side drilling offset from a sketch.
Height and width are the door sizes you want made, in mm.
Fitting gaps have been allowed for once.
Quantities, hinge sides and every custom hinge centre are checked.
Each different size is recorded separately.
For sloping tops, use our Angled Doors guide and email both heights, the width and any straight top section.
Email your measurements and a labelled sketch or photo. We’ll help you check what information is needed.
